The following is a small sample of the work done on the 2012 campaign. All was a true team effort from the Design, Development and Tech teams. Without the amazing individuals on each, none would have been possible.
Artfully expressing Facebook in the world. We are a multidisciplinary team of art directors, designers, writers, film makers, and engineers. A few of the things we make can be found here:
I started this project with Doyald Young, it was to be a gift from myself and Doyald to one of our mutual friends. Before the poster was finished, sadly, Doyald passed away. The day after his passing, I contacted friend, and ultra talented Jessica Hische. She graciously and beautifully brought the project to life. The poster took a whole new direction from a gift for a friend to a vehicle that raises money for a Art Center type scholarship honoring his legacy.
For decades, Grant Brittain has captured the world's best skateboarders in photos that have become classics. This gallery exhibit and limited edition book showcased his amazing contribution to skateboarding.
Here are a few I have made recently. My introduction and love for them came from this fine gentleman:
"The digital world has branded me a dinosaur and a nonconformist. They generally find much amusement in me and love to tease me about my "old school" ways. All because I think the computer is a terrible design tool. It shields the designer from what he/she is actually supposed to be doing. I still work with my mind, my hands, my ideas.
Because so much of my career was built around nothing (no budget, no nothing), I had to work with whatever I had to use. I became a master of really shitty printing. I can make bad printing look like a million bucks. I can make lettering with a potato. I can dig into a garbage can and create an award-winning, important design. That's simply because I know the processes involved".
Phonography is a journey through the highly personal interests of designers, photographers, musicians, skateboarders and creative people alike. The idea for the exhibit came from a question I had after returning from India. Though I had taken a XLR camera, most of my photos were taken on my phone. What are the moments others capture on their phone camera? After seeing the amazing photos friends were taking, I thought sharing them in a show was in order. This diverse group of creatives included Jessica Hische (lettering artist), Armin Vit (Designer), Lance Mountain (Professional Skateboarder), Don Clark (Designer), Ed Templeton (Professional Skateboarder / Artist), Gary Hustwit (Film Maker), Grant Brittain (Photographer), Mark Hoppus (Musician / Blink 182), Otis B. (Photographer), Paul Frank (Artist) and many more. Several hundred photos made up the show sold with proceeds donated to Doctors Without Borders.
The Hurricane Poster Project was an international collaboration of artists and designers to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Posters were designed, produced and sold online, with profits donated to the Red Cross. This is my contribution.
SO-CAL POSTER PROJECT
Client: Personal project For: American Red Cross
I started The So-Cal Poster Project following wildfires that devastated Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties. Signed and numbered, limited edition posters were donated by designers and artists from around the globe to be sold online for victims of the wildfires. All proceeds were donated to the Salvation Army.
THE HAITI POSTER PROJECT
Client: Personal project For: Doctors Without Borders
I started the Haiti Poster Project with friend Leif Steiner three days after the earthquake hit Haiti. Signed and numbered, limited edition posters were donated by designers and artists from around the world to be sold online with all proceeds donated to Doctors Without Borders.
